The Heroine’s Journey

Have you found your inner heroine? Are you on your soul path? Does fear hold you back from stepping out of your comfort zone and into your next adventure? Would you like to write engaging female characters?

The Heroine’s Journey refers to your soul journey through life when you are aligned to your path and following your intuition. It’s the untrodden path and although you might have guidance from mentors and helpers on the way, ultimately your path is unique to you – and so you may feel lost and disorientated at times.

The Heroine's Journey is a powerful tool for writing strong characters who engage readers. Consider a female character who sticks in your mind from a book or film. Can you map aspects of the milestones on this journey to that character?

Using this cycle of the Heroine’s Journey can result not only in the writing of powerful character, but also in a strong transformational narrative in any story you are writing.

But before we can truly write with authenticity, we must be able to reach into our souls and connect to the emotions inside ourselves that have arisen for us on our own soul journeys. The famous writer, Robert Frost said:

“No tears in the writer,
no tears in the reader.”

Some people like to follow the footsteps of others. It makes them feel safe. The Buddha didn’t want his teachings (the Dharma) written down for this reason; he knew that his path was only his path, and everyone must find their own way.

  • Does fear hold you back? Do you ever talk yourself out of trying new things, exploring new countries? Resisted starting a new business?

  • Want to take a Soul Journey to connect to your inner adventurer and meet your inner mentor?

  • Learn how to write from the intuition and write powerful female characters that go on transformational journeys and engage readers

If the above applies to you,
April’s Soul Writer Workshop is for you!
It’s all about New Beginnings &
    Connecting to your inner heroine

There are milestones on the Heroine's Journey that are common to many women (see diagram below).

In April’s Soul Writing Workshop we will consider our life journey and our stories in the context of the stages on this diagram. You might like to reflect on how your life and small or large phases in your life, or journeys you have taken to step outside your comfort zones have mapped to stages on this diagram.

We will also do a Soul Writing Meditation Exercise that will take you on an inner journey to discover the spirit of the adventurer in you and meet your inner mentor and helpers to assist you on your soul path through life.

Every woman's Soul Journey through life is individual.
And so everyone's Soul Stories are
unique and individual to you.

In this month’s Soul Writer Membership workshop, we pack our knapsacks and gather our homes on our backs and venture out into the world. This is the start of the journey into ourselves and we must prepare for the unknown, new adventures. We connect to the energy of excitement, freedom to explore and jump into our future. This element of the unknown is important for our writing, for as Robert Frost also said:

“No surprise in the writer,
no surprise in the reader.”

All good stories with strong heroines follow a similar framework to The Heroine’s Journey. This journey makes for powerful character and engages readers. Writing stories based on the milestones of The Heroine’s Journey can be transformational for you too.
